One Tree ReCycle

The One Tree ReCycle was created in the spirit of the Klunkerz.  For those of you that are not aware of the history of Mt. Biking, the Klunkerz were the true originators of the sport.  By converting war era fat tire beach cruisers, they would explore Mt. Tamalpais (Mt. Tam) located in Marin County California, just north of the Golden Gate Bridge.  The documentary is a must see for any mountain biking enthusiast.  http://www.klunkerz.com/

I began with a Schwinn style cantilevered frame with modern dimensions that I bought for $40.  I added all previously loved parts obtained from craigslist and the non-profit organization Trips for Kids which operates the Marin ReCyclery.  The wheels were laced around a Bendix coaster brake hub which made for a really scary (but authentic) ride.  The Brooks leather saddle was found at a used bike parts co-op in Missoula, MT and was well worn!  The only new product on the bike was the hand grips made of cork, a highly renewable resource.

The ReCycle was a blast to ride and was taken on many great adventures! The bike has been sold and may now be seen on the streets of Davis, CA.  Enjoy!
